Providence said it intends to fill any gaps in care or any reduction in patient access with the region’s other advanced medical training programs.
The one-year family residency program will be reduced to eight slots from a high of 18. It will recruit only four new residents for the class of 2028 instead of 10. The sports medicine fellowship has one position.
The cuts stem from a reduction in Graduate Medical Education funding, according to the report.
The reductions are expected to save Providence $2 million to $3 million a year.
