Piedmont Orthopedics adds 4 physicians

Piedmont Orthopedics | OrthoAtlanta has added four new orthopedic and sports medicine physicians to its staff since Sept. 2.

OrthoAtlanta is one of the largest physician-owned orthopedic and sports medicine practices in the Southeast, supporting more than 80 physicians across 28 locations. 

Here are the organization’s new additions:

  • J. Hunter Matthews, MD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction and total joint replacement. Dr. Matthews provides comprehensive treatment of hip and knee conditions, including degenerative joint disease, post-traumatic arthritis, avascular necrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, prosthetic joint complications and complex joint replacement.
  • Carson Smith, MD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle care. He provides surgical and nonsurgical care for foot and ankle conditions including fractures, sprains, arthritis, Achilles tendon disorders, bunions and deformities.
  • Brandon Maisel, DO, a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician with specialized training in orthobiologics, musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures. His expertise includes the evaluation and treatment of sports injuries, joint pain, tendon disorders, spine-related conditions, fractures, work-related injuries and concussions.
  • Bruce Byrd, MD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacements. He specializes in primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery, with a particular interest in minimally invasive techniques and robotic-assisted joint replacement.
