Pennsylvania medical center completes 1st meniscal transplant surgery

Surgeons from Johnstown, Pa.-based Conemaugh Physician Group’s Western Pennsylvania Orthopedics practice have completed the first meniscal transplant surgery at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, according to an Aug. 5 report from CBS affiliate WTAJ.

The procedure was performed by orthopedic surgeon Richard Goodrich, DO, alongside surgical technician Darren Lester and certified surgical first assistant Louis Koharchik. 

Meniscal transplant surgery, which is only a few years old, replaces a missing or damaged meniscus with a meniscus from a cadaver donor.
