The average orthopedic surgeon salary increased more than 18 percent from 2017 to 2023, according to AMN Healthcare's "2023 Review of Physician and Advanced Practitioner Recruiting Incentives" report released July 24. 

Morgantown-based West Virginia Medicine Orthopedics has received the Own the Bone Stage Performer designation from the American Orthopaedic Association.

On average, orthopedic surgeons nationwide earn $573,000 a year, according to the most recent data from Medscape. However, the highest paid orthopedic surgeons in cities including New York City and Los Angeles make far more, with salaries surpassing $800,000. 

New York state has the highest number of top-ranked orthopedic hospitals in the U.S. for 2023 and 2024, with 10 top facilities.

Benjamin Welborn, MD, joined Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, a department of Pardee Hospital in Asheville, N.C.

A jury found Brian Laman, MD, of Sheridan (Wyo.) Orthopedic Associates was not guilty of negligence after allegations he declined to operate on a patient's wrist, The Sheridan Press reported Aug. 12.
