The publication surveyed 17,903 physicians, 3 percent of whom were orthopedists, between October 2020 and February 2021.

In the 2020 report, 19 percent of orthopedic surgeons said their net worth exceeded $5 million. For the 2021 report, just 7 percent of orthopedic surgeons reported net worth at $5 million or more.

The percentage of orthopedic surgeons with a net worth on the lower end of the spectrum, less than $500,000, decreased from 24 percent in the 2020 report to 2 percent in the 2021 report.
