Dr. Keener’s clinical interests include shoulder and elbow arthroscopic surgery, shoulder instability, throwing shoulder injuries, labral tears and biceps tendon injuries, rotator cuff disease and tears and frozen shoulder syndrome. His research centers on clinical outcome studies of reconstructive shoulder and elbow surgery and outcomes of various resident education teaching methods.
Dr. Keener has previously served as an assistant professor in the orthopedic surgery department at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, where he won an outstanding instructor award. He has also won the Jerome J. Gilden Distinguished Physician Award for Compassionate Care at Washington University School of Medicine.
Dr. Keener earned his medical degree at West Virginia University, School of Medicine in Morgantown. He completed his residency at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He has also completed a fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at Washington University School of Medicine.
