Dr. Flatow has served as president of the American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons as well as chair of the Publications Committee and the Council on Education of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has also served as chair of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery‘s trustees.
Dr. Flatow focuses on minimally invasive fracture repair, arthroscopic repair, arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery and shoulder replacement. In collaboration with anesthesiologists, he has pioneered the use of regional blocks for shoulder surgeries. He has received a number of awards during his career, including the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon’s Neer Award. He has authored five books and more than 170 articles and book chapters.
Dr. Flatow received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency and a shoulder fellowship at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.
