Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Eric Makhni of Henry Ford Health System

Eric Makhni, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit.

With expertise in sports medicine, Dr. Makhni’s additional specialties include joint preservation of the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee.

Dr. Makhni has published research on topics including elbow torque in young baseball pitchers and Tommy John surgery outcomes in journals such as the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

He serves as team physician of the Detroit Lions and Detroit City FC professional organizations.

Dr. Makhni is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Association of North America.

After earning his medical degree from Boston-based Harvard Medical School, Dr. Makhni completed his residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in New York City and underwent shoulder and sports medicine fellowship training at Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center.
