Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Amy Jo Ptaszek of Illinois Bone & Joint Institute

Amy Jo Ptaszek, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Illinois Bone & Joint Institute in Glenview, Ill. and Wilmette, Ill.

Specializing in foot and ankle disorders, Dr. Ptaszek is affiliated with Evanston (Ill.) Hospital, Glenbrook (Ill.) Hospital and Glenview-based Ravine Way Surgery Center.

Dr. Ptaszek serves as a clinical assistant orthopedics professor at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. She is also an associate team physician for high school student athletes.

Along with helping establish a sports center in Glenview, Dr. Ptaszek worked with athletic trainers to design a patented soccer cleat intended to prevent Achilles tendinopathy.

Dr. Ptaszek served in the U.S. Air Force for several years. In 2000, the Air Force awarded her a Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service for her work at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio.

After earning her medical degree from Maywood, Ill.-based Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, Dr. Ptaszek completed an internship and residency at Northwestern University in Chicago. She underwent fellowship training at Dallas-based Baylor University Medical Center.
