Dr. Daouk, an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, claimed he was fired for refusing to comply with the health system’s standards, which allegedly required him to only operate and make referrals within its own network.
The alleged self-referral requirements violated Stark Law and “patients’ freedom of choice,” according to the lawsuit.
Although Dr. Daouk dropped the allegations, he reserves the right to file another lawsuit on the same grounds.
Terms of the settlement or agreement were not disclosed.
