Orthopedic surgeon salary up slightly to $536,000 in 2018-19

Orthopedic surgeons report an average annual salary of $536,000, according to Merritt Hawkins 2019 Review of Physician and Advanced Practitioner Recruiting Incentives report.

On the high end, orthopedic surgeon salary was $850,000 and the low end was reported as $350,000. Year-over-year, orthopedic surgeon salary increased 0.56 percent on average.

For all physicians, the average signing bonus in 2018-19 was $32,692; the range of signing bonuses was $3,000 to $225,000.

Orthopedic surgeons were also among the most requested specialty searches, although the number of searches was down from previous years. In 2018-19, orthopedic surgeons were requested 73 times, compared with 85 the year before and 106 in 2014-15.
