Little Rock-based University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Chancellor C. Lowry Barnes, MD, was invested in the Harry P. Ward Chancellor’s Distinguished Chair during a Sept. 29 ceremony.
Dr. Barnes, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee joint reconstruction and replacement, was named UAMS chancellor Feb. 5 after serving as interim chancellor for seven months, according to a Sept. 29 news release.
He joined UAMS in 2014 as professor and chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. He is also founding director of the Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital at UAMS.
Dr. Barnes has published more than 350 peer-reviewed articles focused on the hip and knee and holds seven patents for orthopedic surgery devices and implants. He has also served as president of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
The Harry P. Ward Chancellor’s Distinguished Chair was endowed in 2005.
