Orthopedic surgeon leader to know: Dr. Robert Boykin of Blue Ridge Bone & Joint

Robert E. Boykin, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, a practice with five locations in North Carolina. His clinical interests focus on sports medicine, including disorders of the shoulder, knee and hip.

He serves as a team physician for the US Alpine Ski Team and as a consultant to the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation. He is a content author and senior reviewer for the orthopedic education website Orthobullets.com and a reviewer for both Arthroscopy and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He holds memberships with Arthroscopy Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and International Society for Hip Arthroscopy, among other professional societies.

 

Dr. Boykin earned his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn., and performed residency training through the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program in Boston. He went on to complete two fellowships: a sports medicine fellowship at the Vail, Colo.-based The Steadman Clinic and a shoulder fellowship at Annecy, France-based Alps Surgery Institute.
