An orthopedic surgeon with Augusta Health in Fishersville, Va., was found guilty of petty larceny, WHSV reported June 12.
Geoffrey Rieser, MD, faced felony charges of conspiring to commit larceny greater than $1,000, but it was amended to petty larceny, class 1 misdemeanor. The charges stemmed from an incident in 2024.
His 12-month sentence was suspended.
A spokesperson for Augusta Health told Becker’s that the system had no comment but “we have faith in the quality-of-care Dr. Rieser provides to patients in the Shenandoah Valley.”
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
