An orthopedic surgeon has filed a lawsuit against his former employer, claiming age discrimination, wrongful discharge and breach of contract, according to an Oct. 19 report from nj.com.

Michael Meese, MD, served as medical director of the Cliffside Park Board of Education for 25 years before being replaced earlier this year. He entered annually into contracts with the board to provide treatment of sports-related injuries for high school students.

The 67-year-old orthopedic surgeon claims that there is “no rational explanation” as to why he was replaced by Jonathan Dominguez, MD, a 36-year-old family practice physician.

Dr. Meese was paid $15,000 last year for his services. Dr. Dominguez is being paid $24,000 annually to serve as the new medical director, according to the lawsuit.

Dr. Meese is seeking a jury trial and monetary damages, the report said.

The board did not immediately respond to Becker’s request for comment.
