An orthopedic surgeon licensed in Iowa is facing sanctions from state regulators over alleged misconduct that occurred in Kentucky, the Iowa Capital Dispatch reported May 13.
The Iowa Board of Medicine has charged Thomas Satterly, DO, who practiced in the state in 2023 and 2024, with unprofessional conduct, violating the laws or rules governing the practice of the profession and with failure to report out-of-state discipline, the report said. A board hearing is expected July 9.
Dr. Satterly was first licensed in Iowa in September 2023, and his license to work in the state expires in November, according to the Iowa Capital Dispatch.
But the Kentucky Board of Medicine show that in 2025 he was sanctioned in the state over alleged unprofessional conduct and sexual misconduct, according to the Iowa Capital Dispatch. Frankfurt (Ky.) Regional Medical Center imposed a precautionary suspension of Dr. Satterly’s hospital privileges, and those privileges were then automatically relinquished, according to the Kentucky board.
A board hearing in Iowa is expected July 9, the report said. The Iowa Capital Dispatch was unable to reach Dr. Satterly for comment.
