1. Dr. Shephard was charged with possession of a controlled substance, felony firearm weapons, using a computer to commit a crime and engaging in prostitution services.
2. Because the orthopedic surgeon pleaded guilty to carrying a controlled substance under 25 grams, Dr. Shephard’s charge was reduced to a misdemeanor.
3. Investigators found Dr. Shepard in possession of an unmarked prescription bottle of Percocet.
4. Dr. Shephard’s felony weapon charge was ultimately dropped, and his computer charge was reduced to malicious use of a telephone.
5. The Michigan Board of Medicine’s database lists no other disciplinary actions or complaints against Dr. Shephard. He formerly worked at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord, Mich., until his arrest.
