Orthopedic surgeon arrested in Florida on allegations of patient abuse

An orthopedic surgeon was arrested in Florida on accusations he abused patients during checkups and procedures, NBC affiliate WBBH reported Jan. 10.

Police in Naples, Fla., are investigating James DeVellis, MD, the report said. Dr. DeVellis is a Boston-based surgeon and has been accused of touching patients inappropriately during visits. He has a home in Naples.

Dr. DeVellis pleaded not guilty to charges related to sexual assault allegations in 2022, Boston 25 News reported Dec. 21. He was set to return to court Jan. 10.
