The Sept. 20 settlement notice ends a five-year legal saga that began when Anuj Thapa filed the lawsuit alleging the orthopedic practice left him with worsening leg pain and subsequent follow-up surgeries. Mr. Thapa saw St. Cloud Orthopedic Associates for fracture surgery in 2017.
In 2022, a jury awarded Mr. Thapa more than $111 million in damages, but the following year a judge reduced the verdict to $10 million.
In December, the Star Tribune reported that Mr. Thapa decided to seek a new trial against the orthopedic practice. However the parties agreed to settle, and they are in the process of finalizing it, according to court documents filed Sept. 20 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
