Orthopedic physician wait times dip 29% since 2022

The average time to see a physician across specialties has grown 19% since 2022, but for orthopedics that figure has gone down, according to a new survey from AMH Healthcare.

The average physician appointment wait time for orthopedic surgery is 12 days which is down 29% since 2022 and 2004, according to a May 27 news release. The average for all specialities is 31 days in 15 of the largest U.S. metropolitan areas.

Specialties that saw increases in wait times since 2022 include gynecology (33%) dermatology (6%), cardiology (23%) and family medicine (14%). The average wait time for gastroenterology, which was added to the survey in 2025, was 40 days.

AMH Healthcare included survey data from 1,391 physician offices.
