OrthoPediatrics Corp. has entered an exclusive distribution agreement with Ossio to bring a bio-integrative, metal-free fixation technology to U.S. children’s hospitals.

The agreement gives OrthoPediatrics exclusive distribution rights for Ossiofiber implants, which are designed for the treatment of fractures and deformities in pediatric patients, according to a June 24 news release.

Unlike traditional metal fixation devices, Ossiofiber implants are gradually replaced by newly formed bone during the healing process. The technology is intended to reduce the need for hardware removal procedures that many pediatric patients undergo after receiving metal implants.

The implants are made from a proprietary blend of natural mineral fibers and provide initial fixation strength comparable to metal implants. The implants fully integrate into the patient’s bone tissue within 18 to 24 months, leaving no permanent hardware behind.
