William Obremskey, MD, a professor of orthopedic surgery at Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been named president of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.

Over the past 20 years with OTA, Dr. Obremskey has chaired the membership and evidence-based medicine committees, co-chaired the trauma registry committee and served on the program committee, according to an Oct. 7 news release from VUMC.

“The OTA has played a transformative role throughout my career,” Dr. Obremskey said in the release.

He said his priorities as president include strengthening members’ resources to deliver care and avoid burnout and moral injury, advancing evidence-based care, fostering innovation, supporting research and developing the next generation of orthopedic trauma leaders.

Dr. Obremskey joined Vanderbilt in 2002 after serving in the U.S. Air Force, completing a trauma fellowship in Basel, Switzerland, and working in the orthopedics department at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He has served as principal investigator on four Defense Department-funded Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium studies and has authored or co-authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications.

OTA said its mission centers on improving care worldwide for patients with musculoskeletal injuries through education, research and collaboration.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
