Ortho RI reaches $2.9M settlement in data breach lawsuit

Ortho Rhode Island has agreed to a $2.9 million settlement in a data privacy lawsuit, according to the Kent County (R.I.) Superior Court.

The company experienced a three-day outage following an attack on its systems in September 2024. Data exposed by the hack included names, addresses, billing and health insurance information.

Ortho RI has denied any wrongdoing, but will pay $2.9 million to dismiss the lawsuit. 

The final approval hearing is scheduled for Jan. 28, 2026.
