1. In 2015, Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital saw 1,926 patients for orthopedic care, including total hip and knee replacements.

 

2. The length of hospitalization has declined 42 percent for total hip replacement. In 2015 the average stay was three-and-a-half nights, compared with six nights in 2006.

 

3. The length of hospitalization has declined 40 percent for total knee replacement. In 2015 the average stay was three-and-a-half nights, compared with 5.8 nights in 2006.

 

4. The hospital credits this decrease in length of stay to developments in technology and techniques, which have improved patient recovery times. These developments include reductions in joint trauma and using smaller incisions.
