Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.-based Phelps Hospital, an affiliate of New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health, has tapped Brandon Erickson, MD, as its inaugural chair of the new orthopedic department.
Dr. Erickson will also serve as director of orthopedics for Westchester County. He will be responsible for expanding orthopedic services in the area, improving quality of care and enhancing patient experience, according to a March 12 press release.
He will also maintain his clinical practice, specializing in sports medicine injuries. In addition, he will oversee the recruitment of new specialists across sports medicine, joint replacements and surgical treatments for the spine, shoulder, hand, wrist, foot and ankle care.
Seven specialists have already joined the newly formed department at Phelps. Dr. Erickson previously served as section chief of shoulder and elbow surgery at Phelps Hospital and as a sports medicine and shoulder surgeon at Rothman Orthopaedics in Philadelphia.
He currently serves as an assistant professor at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Hempstead, N.Y., and has previously taught at the Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and the Grossman School of Medicine at New York University in New York City.
Dr. Erickson also serves as assistant team physician for the Philadelphia Phillies and previously provided orthopedic sideline coverage for the New York Mets and the Chicago White Sox.
