The North Carolina State Health Plan has added Charlotte, N.C.-based OrthoCarolina as a preferred provider in its no-cost surgical program offered through specialty care platform Lantern.

The program connects eligible health plan members with surgeons and facilities for select nonemergency procedures at no out-of-pocket cost, according to a June 16 news release.

The partnership expands access to high-quality surgical care while supporting efforts to manage healthcare costs. The State Health Plan has used the Lantern program to connect members with providers through a value-based care model focused on quality, affordability and care coordination.

OrthoCarolina operates more than 40 locations across North Carolina and has expanded its ambulatory surgery capacity through recent investments, including a four-operating-room ASC  in Steele Creek, N.C., and an expansion of its surgical center in Matthews, N.C., from two to four operating rooms.

The State Health Plan plans to continue exploring programs aimed at improving access to care and controlling rising healthcare costs for members, according to the release.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
