North Carolina health system terminates orthopedic surgeon’s contract

Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health terminated the contract of an orthopedic surgeon who practiced in Transylvania County for 17 years, according to a report in The Transylvania Times

Mark Lemel, MD, practices at Brevard (N.C.) Orthopedics, which is part of Mission Health. His contract with the health system ends on March 31 and he is unsure of his future plans, according to the report.

Dr. Lemel joined Brevard Orthopedics in 2004 with a focus on hand and foot surgery.

In 2013, Dr. Lemel was named vice chair of the Brevard College board of visitors and volunteered as a member of the Brevard College sports medicine team.
