Syosset (N.Y.)  Hospital, part of New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health, has performed its first Bridge-Enhanced ACL Restoration procedure, marking a milestone in knee injury treatment, according to a July 23 news release by the system.

The surgery was performed in June by orthopedic sports medicine specialist Ajay Padaki, MD, on a 19-year-old male patient with a partial ACL tear and meniscus injury sustained while playing soccer. The Bear technique uses a collagen-enhanced implant to preserve the native ACL and promote natural healing, avoiding traditional tendon harvesting.

The Bear implant, recently approved by the FDA, is an emerging option for select patients with ACL injuries. Syosset Hospital said its adoption of the procedure reflects an ongoing focus on advanced, minimally invasive orthopedic care.
