Douglas Unis, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at New York City-based Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, completed the procedure on a cadaver in Austin, Texas, from New York City in real-time, operating the Monogram mBos robot with a user-operated foot pedal.
“Despite being over 1,700 miles away, the real-time system was highly responsive with minimal latency. The applications for a robust system with these capabilities are tremendous. No system on the market today is capable of doing what Monogram just demonstrated,” Dr. Unis, who is also the founder of Monogram, said in a March 30 press release.
