The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Jabaley-Songcharoen Center for Hand, Upper Extremity and Nerve Surgery in Jackson has become the first facility worldwide to earn a hand surgery center of excellence designation from the Surgical Review Corp., according to an April 21 report from The Northside Sun.

The center’s director, Marc Walker, MD, began the facility’s accreditation journey in 2023. The facility then underwent an onsite care and operational review.

The surgery center features plastic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons and rehabilitation specialists who provide care for adult and pediatric hand patients.

The center plans to relocate in 2026 to better combine plastic and orthopedic surgery under one roof, as well as expand services offered.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
