Genesis Innovation Group, a medical device development firm, has formed Capitan Orthopedics, a new subsidiary branch, according to a Jan. 20 news release from the company.

Here are five things to know:

  1. Capitan Orthopedics has developed a minimally invasive implant for irreparable rotator cuff tears.
  2. The SupraSpacer restores joint alignment, improves range of motion and preserves future surgical options.
  3. The implant maintains the humeral head centered in the shoulder joint to reduce risk of advancing shoulder arthritis.
  4. Genesis has amassed 227 patents and more than 150 510(k) clearances through its medical device development.
  5. More than 2 million patients are diagnosed with a rotator cuff injury each year.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
