The Intellijoint HIP is a smart tool that helps orthopedic surgeons measure leg length and hip offset during hip replacements. It includes two disposable sensors and a display computer that provides the readings. The technology was developed by Armen Bakirtzian, the son of Bedros Bakirtzian, MD, who was the first surgeon to use the technology.
Armen Bakirtzian is the CEO and co-founder of Intellijoint Surgical, based in Ontario, Canada. He began developing the technology after watching his father perform a hip replacement in 2007, when he was an engineering student.
The device has been used in 135 surgeries in Canada, and Massena Memorial is the first U.S. hospital to use it, according to the report.
