Louisiana surgeon’s contribution to orthopedics recognized with endowed chair

After more than 50 years practicing as an orthopedic surgeon, an endowed chair has been established at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge to honor David Drez Jr., MD, the American Press reported Aug, 3.

Four things to know:

1. The David Drez, Jr., MD, Chair in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine was announced this week by the Center for Orthopaedics and the LSU Health Foundation in New Orleans.

2. Responsibilities of the chair will include educating residents and medical students, developing multidisciplinary research programs in orthopedics and creating clinical initiatives on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries.

3. Currently, Dr. Drez serves as senior advisor at Center for Orthopaedics, a 19-physician practice with locations in Lake Charles and Sulphur, La.

4. He is co-author of “Orthopedics Sports Medicine,” a textbook for sports medicine physicians, physical therapists and athletic trainers, and was co-editor of Operative Techniques in Sports Medicine.
