A Los Angles County judge ordered law firm Hooper Lundy to turn over client files to Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic and rejected the firm’s claim that an internal dispute justified withholding them.
The ruling allows Kerlan-Jobe to access records needed to investigate potential malpractice claims as the statute of limitations approaches, according to an Aug. 4 news release shared with Becker’s. Kerlan-Jobe also alleged the law firm had a severe conflict of interest since it also represented Cedars-Sinai, unbeknownst to Kerlan-Jobe.
Earlier this year, Kerlan-Jobe sued Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai for $150 million over an alleged scheme to appropriate its assets, reputation, patient base and intellectual property without compensation.
