John Hopkins orthopedic surgery chief to oversee operations at Maryland field hospital

James Ficke, MD, director of orthopedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, is supervising operations at a 250-bed field hospital in the city.

Three things to know:

1.Dr. Ficke specializes in foot and ankle surgery, and is a former colonel in the U.S. Army.

2. The Baltimore Convention Center on April 27 began accepting patients to ease ER burdens on area hospitals. 

3. Johns Hopkins Medicine and the University of Maryland Medical System, both in Baltimore, have teamed to staff and manage the facility.
