The center’s first Mako procedures were performed by Robert Kayal, MD, Victor Ortiz, MD, and Gerald Andah, MD, surgeons at Kayal Orthopedic Center in Glen Rock, N.J., according to a July 27 news release from the health system.

The Mako robot allows for more surgical precision, a longer-lasting implant, less pain and faster recovery times, the release said.

RWJBarnabas Health is based in West Orange, N.J.
