5 orthopedic practices making headlines

From a new facility opening to more surgeons using robots, here are five stories involving orthopedic practices reported on by Becker's since Aug. 1:

1. Mountainstate Orthopedic Associates  in Morgantown, W.Va., opened its new center in Bridgeport; it will offer the full range of orthopedic services.

2. Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., added a VELYS surgical robot that assists with knee replacement procedures to its lineup.

3. LewisGate Medical Center in Salem, Va., is the first in the Roanoke Valley area to offer robotic-assisted partial knee, total hip and total knee replacements using the Mako robotic arm system. Phillip Patterson, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at the center, performed the practice's first robotic total knee replacement Aug. 12. 

4. Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, Calif., introduced two joint replacement robots to its practices. The group's Mission VIejo-based location added the Rosa knee robot, and the Orange-based center added a Corin OMNIBiotics system. It plans to add another robot to its center in Aliso Viejo later this year. 

5. Riverside Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Specialists in Newport, Va. said patient engagement on Joint University, its digital surgical recovery program, was high and has seen a 99 percent participation rate for those undergoing total knee replacement.
