Mission (Texas) Regional Medical Center began using biometric patient-specific hip implants for joint replacements, the Rio Grande Guardian reported June 16.
Vaibhav Kanawade, MD, is one of the first 10 surgeons in the country to offer the technology and is the only surgeon in the region to have them. He is an internationally recognized surgeon and known for his research on hip replacements, the report said.
"There are clear advantages for the patient with biometric, patient-specific hip replacement surgery," Dr. Kanawade said in the report. "The success of hip replacement surgery depends on the proper implant selection and placement in bone that matches a patient’s anatomy."
