The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons formed a $1 million grant program for diversity, equity and access in orthopedics.
The IDEA Grant Program aims to award at least $1 million over five years, according to a May 2 news release. Funds will be allocated across four areas focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion: touchpoints, retention, community support and academic retention.
"The AAOS is committed to helping address decades of inertia surrounding persistent disparities across orthopedics to better serve our patients," President Felix "Buddy" Savoie III, MD, said in the release. "At an organization level, we have made progress towards our goal of evolving the culture and governance to be more diverse, and we will continue to move the needle forward each year."
Grant applications are open through July 15.
