California, one of the most populous states in the U.S., is home to some of the top institutions for orthopedic care and NIH funding.

Here are six facts to know about orthopedic care in the state:

1. The top three schools to receive neurosurgery funding from the National Institutes of Health are in California. The University of California San Francisco received $25.3 million, Stanford University received $17.5 million and the University of California Los Angeles received $15 million.

2. The University of California San Francisco Medical Center was named the top hospital for neurosurgery and neurology in the state by U.S. News & World Report.

3. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles was named the best hospital for orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report.

4. California is among the top three most densely populated states with ASCs that perform total joint surgeries.

5. California has 523 orthopedic ASCs and 13.23 orthopedic ASCs per 1 million people.

6. The average annual salary for orthopedic surgeons in California is $367,207, according to ZipRecruiter.
