Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine's new chief of orthopedic oncology and four more orthopedic surgeons joined new practices or assumed new titles in December:

1. Randy Schwartzberg, MD, was appointed to California's Board of Athletic Training.

2. Michael Ast, MD, was named vice chair and chief medical innovation officer of the HSS Innovation Institute in New York City.

3. Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine selected Cara Cipriano, MD, as its new chief of orthopedic oncology.

4. Raj Gala, MD, and Andrew Pao, MD, joined Greenwich, Conn.-based Orthopaedic & Neurosurgery Specialists.
