Orthopedic companies continue to be among the biggest spenders in the medical device industry when it comes to payments made to physicians.

Since 2013, drug and devicemakers have been required to disclose payments to physicians and health systems under the Physician Payment Sunshine Act, which was created to increase the transparency of these relationships.

Data for 2020 were made public on June 30 on CMS' Open Payments Database.
