A trustees committee for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences on July 7 approved a $13.6 million land-purchase agreement for an orthopedic and sports medicine center in Springdale, according to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

Construction of the 185,000-square-foot facility, which will be adjacent to Arkansas Children's Northwest Hospital, was approved in March.

The project will cost $85 million, according to the report. It will have 12 operating rooms, with specialty clinics including orthopedics, imaging, physical therapy, sports performance, research and education.

The orthopedic center is expected to open in 2023.
