Virtual reality surgical training company Osso VR has raised $27 million in series B funding, led by investment firm GSR Ventures.

Led by orthopedic surgeon Justin Barad, MD, Osso VR provides on-demand and measurable educational experiences for surgeons to become proficient in surgical techniques and technologies.

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated Osso VR's growth in 2020 and recently partnered with Johnson & Johnson, Stryker and Smith+Nephew, according to a July 6 news release. The company offers more than 120 modules in more than 10 specialties, including orthopedics, endoscopy and interventional procedures.

"After proving the clinical effectiveness of the platform and its unique ability to scale up to the millions of providers around the world, we are ready to accelerate," Dr. Barad said. "We plan to exponentially expand our library and platform so that every patient in the world can have the peace of mind knowing they are getting access to the safest, highest-value procedures."

Recent studies demonstrated that Osso VR technology can lead to a 230 percent to 306 percent improvement in surgical performance compared to traditional training.
