Michigan Medicine's new orthopedic surgery chair and nine more surgeons to know:

William Accousti, MD. Children's Hospital New Orleans. Dr. Accousti has more than 16 years of experience in pediatric surgery. He described his specialty as "a wonderful field that routinely returns patients back to a normal life and activity in a very short time."

Robert Belniak, MD. Starling Physicians (Glastonbury and New Britain, Conn.). Dr. Belniak's clinical interests include joint replacement and sports injuries. He received his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington.

Michelle Caird, MD. Michigan Medicine (Ann Arbor). Dr. Caird was named orthopedic surgery chair and started the role May 1. Her areas of expertise include idiopathic and congenital scoliosis, pediatric hip conditions and lower extremity deformities.

George Dass, MD. OrthoMichigan (Flint). Dr. Dass specializes in hand, elbow, and shoulder surgery. He's an associate clinical professor at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine in East Lansing.

Thomas Graham, MD. Kettering (Ohio) Health. Dr. Graham is a hand surgeon and was recently named senior vice president and chief innovation and transformation officer. He also served leadership roles at New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health and was on the faculty at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Peter Kurzweil, MD. Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group (Long Beach, Calif.). Dr. Kurzweil is known for his expertise in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. He's team physician for California State University Long Beach and is on the editorial board for the Journal of Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review.

Jeffrey Kutsikovich, MD. Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee (Franklin). Dr. Kutsikovich's special interests include tendon repair and early motion therapies. He's the team physician for Independence High School in Thompson's Station, Tenn.

Brian McCardel, MD. Banner Health (Glendale, Ariz.). Dr. McCardel's specialties include hip and knee surgery and ankle surgery. He received his medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and completed his residency at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Jason Patton, MD. The Orthopaedic Institute of Western Kentucky (Paducah). Dr. Patton specializes in hand and upper extremity surgery in adults and children. He received his medical degree and completed his residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.

Rachel Thompson, MD. David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California Los Angeles. Dr. Thompson was recently appointed the William and Patricia Oppenheim Presidential Chair in Pediatric Orthopaedics. She joined UCLA in 2017 where she is director of the Center for Cerebral Palsy.
