Salem (Ohio) Regional Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission "Gold Seal of Approval" for the third consecutive year, local news outlet WKBN reports.

Four things to know:

1. The accreditation is for the hospital's hip and knee replacement program.

2. To receive the certification, the hospital had to comply with national care standards, use evidence-based guidelines and have an organized approach to quality and performance improvement.

3. The Joint Commission conducted a review of the program in October and determined that it complied with standards of care that include program leadership, patient care delivery, self-care management and clinical information systems.

4. The total joint program includes Dominic Peters, MD, Lee Simon, MD, and Jason Boyd, MD, according to the hospital’s website.
