Becker's has reported on one spine surgeon and one orthopedic surgeon who made headlines this year for introducing medical apps:

Ian Madom, MD, spine surgeon and cofounder of MyMOC, launched the MOCingbird app in March to help medical professionals keep up to date with their education requirements. The app aims to save providers time by managing Maintenance of Certification and Continuing Medical Education requirements and allowing them to take courses on mobile devices. The startup established its headquarters in Providence, R.I., in August and launched the app in New York in November.

Missouri orthopedic surgeon Bret Miller, MD, created the Hurt! App, which provides individuals with direct access to orthopedic specialists through a smartphone. Designed for orthopedic and sports medicine practices, the app connects potential patients to specialists to help navigate bone or joint pain or injury.
