West Lafayette, Ind.-based Purdue University named Mishawaka, Ind.-based Franciscan Health its provider of choice for hip and knee replacements for its employees.

The university analyzed knee and hip replacement-related cost data and found its costs were among the highest in the country. Purdue paid between $21,000 and $67,000 for knee replacements and between $19,000 and $91,000 for hip replacements.

Because of this, the university collected bids for contracts to provide joint replacement services. During the bid process, Franciscan Health emerged as the leading candidate to partner with.

Franciscan Health Mooresville (Ind.) is the No. 1 hospital for joint replacements in the state and among the top 10 percent of hospitals for joint replacements in the nation, as ranked by CareChex.

Purdue will contribute additional financial assistance to its employees who undergo a joint replacement procedure at Franciscan Health's Mooresville or Carmel, Ind., locations. The university will also fund overnight accommodations for any employee undergoing surgery, and will provide employees with a $500 cash payment once the procedure is completed.
