Orthopedic

The Pain Alleviation Toolkit was launched March 12 by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society of Anesthesiologists, reports Street Insider.

Three things to know:

1. The toolkit aims to promote communication and decision-making between physicians and patients to help alleviate postoperative pain.

2. The initiative seeks to reduce opioid consumption by managing pain through nerve blocks, over-the-counter medications and physical therapy.

3. Resources include postoperative guides, preoperative screening tools to identify risks that influence pain levels and recommendations for the safe use, storage and disposal of opioids.
