Here are three quick details on the rise of outpatient total joint replacement procedures:

1. An increasing number of surgery centers are taking on total joint replacement cases. Currently, more than 250 ASCs provide total joint replacement procedures in the U.S.

2. Recent studies have shown total joint replacement surgery costs about 40 percent less for ASCs than hospitals, with $11,677 being the average cost per patient for ASCs and $19,361 for hospitals.

3. As it stands, hospitals perform the majority of total joint procedures in the U.S. However, surgery center growth is set to rise 16 percent through 2026, with market projections indicating that 51 percent of total joint procedures will be performed in ASCs by then.
